After being closed for nearly 200 years, the historic Salıpazarı Port will finally reopen its unparalleled coastline for the public to use and enjoy.
After winning the Salıpazarı Port Tender—carried out by the Privatization Administration on May 16, 2013 with a bid of $702 million USD—Doğuş Group formed a partnership with BLG Capital operating under Bilgili Holding in January, 2014. Through this partnership, Salıpazarı Liman İşletmeciliği ve Yatırımları A.Ş. was founded, acquiring the port area in a transfer contract with Türkiye Denizcilik İşletmeleri A.Ş. that February. Four years later, on February 14, 2018, the company name was changed to Galataport İstanbul Liman İşletmeciliği ve Yatırımları A.Ş.
Galataport’s retail and F&B brands will all be aligned in offering a unique, fresh experience to their clientele. The district will become Istanbul’s new hub of art, culture and design, its creative flair gracefully intertwined with the port’s cruise activities and tourist arrivals. Both the Istanbul Modern Museum and the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Painting and Sculpture Museum—Turkey’s top showcases of contemporary art—will call Galataport home.
Galataport is poised to revitalize Istanbul’s oldest and only major port, transforming it into a high-tech cruise port connecting the city and the sea. It will open up this pristine stretch of coastline for all to enjoy, while reviving one of Istanbul’s oldest public squares. It’s a distinct, tasteful blend of the present and the past, a haven of modern amenity alongside carefully-restored monuments of yesterday. With 42,000 m² of office space in the city’s former financial center, Galataport will give one of Istanbul’s oldest and most respected districts an inspired, vibrant refresh.
