The Peninsula Istanbul takes pride in becoming the first and only hotel in Türkiye to receive BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification. The hotel earned the certification at the "EXCELLENT" level, reflecting its outstanding sustainability efforts.
BREEAM, a global green building certification system that evaluates buildings' environmental performance and sustainability standards, indicates that a building or construction project meets sustainability standards and has been designed with environmental responsibility. The Peninsula Istanbul's BREEAM certification demonstrates how rigorously the hotel meets the highest standards of environmental performance and sustainability.
BREEAM assessments are based on a scoring system covering ten core criteria including energy, health and wellbeing, design innovation, land use, materials, management, pollution, transport, waste and water. Excelling in each of these criteria and earning the "EXCELLENT"-level BREEAM certification, The Peninsula Istanbul sets an example in the industry with its eco-friendly practices and sustainability commitments. The Herb Garden on the rooftop terrace of the hotel's Yalı Ballroom — part of these sustainability efforts — also hosts guests' most special gatherings against the unique backdrop of the Bosphorus.
The Herb Garden supplies daily fresh produce to The Peninsula Istanbul's kitchen. This achievement reflects the hotel's sensitivity to the environment and its strong commitment to sustainability.
