Located on the world-famous 5th Avenue in a central position housing luxury retail and the country's most elite hotels, Mandarin Oriental at 685 5th Avenue presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring a 5-star hotel brand to this prestigious location.
The aim of the project was to add five new floors to the existing 11,700 ft² (approximately 1,086 m²), 20-story office building and convert the upper floors from the 5th floor onwards into 80 world-class residential units with unique amenities and services to be managed by the Mandarin Oriental luxury brand.
These units, designed to be fully furnished yet accessibly priced, were planned to meet the pied-à-terre (small luxury apartment used as a secondary/interim city residence) living needs of individuals. Half of the apartments had private outdoor terraces.
Unit sizes ranged from 600 to 2,600 ft² (approximately 56 to 241 m²). Amenities offered included restaurant, room service, concierge services, spa services, gym and rooftop pool.
80 residential owners would have exclusive access to a private restaurant and spa area, as well as gym facilities. One of the most striking features of the project was a unique outdoor rooftop pool with views of Central Park.
The project was meticulously designed by the award-winning British design firm March & White.
